Fiction Vortex Needs Your Support
Today we set aside the fantastic and the speculative to talk about some pressing matters in that pesky realm of reality. We know, we know, you come to Fiction Vortex specifically to escape said reality, and we promise that won't change. However, it's time to talk about the future of Fiction Vortex, and what you can do to make sure there is one.
Up until this point, Fiction Vortex has been a labor of love, financed almost exclusively by a generous patron. To be clear, none of the staff are paid; the patron simply made it possible to pay authors a token sum, offer cash prizes for monthly contests, and perform site maintenance. It was a small thing, but has been significant to us, and we are exceedingly proud of the authors we have published over the past two years.
We set sail in the good ship Fiction Vortex, not to get paid, but to provide a place for great authors to see their work published. That has always been the primary goal here.
Now the time has come to face the facts about financials. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, our patron must withdraw his support, and we are left at a crossroads. This is where Fiction Vortex stops, or where it takes off. And you help determine the outcome.
We've launched a Patreon campaign, and we hope you will contribute. Here's why: Fiction Vortex will still remain a labor of love, and we won't be paid anything. The people who will get paid, however, are the authors who really deserve it. Frankly, one of our biggest regrets has always been that we couldn't pay authors more. We want you to contribute partially out of your love for Fiction Vortex, but even more so for your love of authors and their fiction. We want to celebrate them and pay them what they deserve.
By subscribing to our Patreon campaign for a few dollars a month, you will make it possible.
There are multiple options for subscription, with three reward tiers. You'll also notice that the more we get each month, the more we pay authors, with the ultimate goal of paying professional rates ($0.06 per word).
Help us Inter-wan Kenwebi. You're our only hope.
